“Reason and remedy for NSF error 0x1A5”

IBM developed Lotus Notes, an adroit email client application in year 1989. It acts as an integrated email client application that collaborates with IBM Domino Server. The staunch email application allows user to access business emails, applications, attachments, contacts, appointments, events, tasks, journals, and calendars. The Lotus Notes application is widely compatible and can work flawlessly on multiple operating systems like Windows, Linux, UNIX and Mac. Lotus Notes and Domino Server both store files in the form of NSF format. Lotus Notes consists of a distinguished feature of application development hence it is also compared to Microsoft SharePoint. The user friendly interface of Notes allows this application the functionality to access, store and present data in safe and secure environment. However there are multiple ways by which Notes NSF files get malfunctioned. In this article I would like to draw a light upon one of the common situations when Lotus Notes user finds difficulty while accessing NSF data.

                                              “Lotus Notes: Error 0x1A5”
The abovementioned error can be encountered in two different situations.

Scenario1:
The “Directory=” parameter is missing from notes.ini.file.

Solution:
•    Open Server notes.ini file using Notepad or WordPad.
•    Under the “NotesProgram=” line, add “Directory=<full path to your domino data directory>”
•    Save and close the notes.ini file and open the Domino Server.

Scenario2:
User faces an error while implementing repairing task such as fixup, compact, or updall on a database of a partitioned server.

Solution:
•    Open portioned server’s data directory.
•    Execute: \<desired executable.exe> <desired database> <options>.  For  example..\nfixup.exe.names.nsf-F

The above mentioned steps will tackle the issue but due to complex and highly technical instances of Lotus Notes user finds even simple task troublesome. Hence many times it has been observed that user makes the situation worst by implementing wrong steps. So it is advisable that user should go for third party NSF recovery tool. It makes the task of the user much simpler because such applications perform all the process in background leaving user to only perform the navigation process.

Stellar Phoenix NSF recovery is one such simple and result oriented tool. The utility never disappoints the user in terms of data security. The application never tampers the original content of the data. It is loaded with advance features that make the task of recovery extremely simple and easy. The tool is widely compatible and supports all the major versions of Lotus Notes. The free demo version of the tool is available at respective website.
